This week saw action from both the Ladies and Junior leagues. In the Ladies league Sleepwell Slammers faced Dacom whilst Fellas played Search & Select Saints. The Junior League saw GB'a take on Southern and GB'z facing Western. The night also a successful 'Blow Your Whistle' Referees course. Many thanks to Nicola Walkingshaw for organising and Paul Ellision, helped by Mark Walker and Martin Dunne for hosting a very informative and well attended 'Blow your whistle' referee's course on Thursday evening.

Ladies League The two games played in the ladies league on Thursday night saw Sleepwell Slammers take on Dacom, while the newly crowned league champions Fellas took on Search and Select Saints, looking to complete an unbeaten season. With the Slammers quickly out of the blocks against Dacom, they raced into a 16-4 point lead at the end of the first quarter. Continuing with a high pressure defence and with Sarah Madrell hitting eight points in the quarter, they went into the half time break leading 36-9. There was no respite for the Dacom team throughout the second half and with the Slammers scoring freely they eventually ran out 61 - 16 winners. Topping the scoring for Slammers were Sarah Madrell, Rachel Cook and Emma Callow with 21, 11 and 10 points respectively, leading the scoring for Dacom was Fiona Guest with 5 points. The second saw Fellas take on Saints in a rehearsal for next week eagerly awaited cup semi-final. Saints started well and held a four point lead after three minutes in the first quarter, after calling a time out the Fellas team came back on court and using a full court press they hit ten unanswered points to lead 16 - 10 at the end of the quarter. The second quarter saw Fellas increase their lead and by half time they led 34 - 23. In the third quarter both teams traded baskets, with the Fellas still holding an 11 point lead, 49 - 38 starting the fourth quarter. The final period saw the Fellas outscore the Saint 19 - 8 to take the game 68 - 46 and complete an unbeaten league season. Top scorers for the Fellas were Rebecca Joe Dunne with 21 points, Jessie Carridge with 14 and Lauren Ellison with 13 points while Sally Burman with 17 points, including an impressive seven out of seven from the free throw line and Kym Hyklin with 12 points topped the scoring for Saints
Junior League The two junior league games played saw comfortably victories for the GB'a over Southern 63 - 26 while GB'z beat the West 2 team 68 - 30, with Callum Randle with 18 points topping the scoring for the GB'z team and Jon Hastie with 10 points leading the way for the West. |
